Well, I sure hope everyone is safe and relatively unscathed from our recent tropical storm. At Desert Vet we were fortunate in so many ways. We did have some water issues and wind damage, and of course the power outage. However, true to form, our team was on top of things and performed to their very best abilities. We learned a valuable lesson about some things: for instance while we have a spiffy back up generator, it failed to work and had we been more diligent before the storm, this could have been avoided. BUT, belt and suspenders people that we are, we were able to limp along using the portable generator. Thanks to Jason and Will who worked their magic; to Sonny at Sun Ray Electric and George at Sun Power Plumbing for at least trying to get the big generator working and to Ivan and Victoria for braving the storm to come to try to fix it. We now know we have to do more to be sure that our back up system is functioning at all times. It was a huge disappointment to not have it, but a valuable lesson in preparation.
In spite of our disabilities, the team did what was possible to keep our patients cared for- Thanks to our 2 Christinas, Priscila, Theresa, Dana, Alyssa, Will, Jason, and Kayla we continued to take care of patients and even perform limited lab work and surgery. Thanks to Angel we could use the computers after some power was restored and though it was a very long day and night, in the end everything was done including the paperwork! On top of working through the storm, each of these fine people worried about, yet put off caring for their own homes and own pets during our crisis.
Thank you to all our wonderful clients who were understanding and patient, and to Dana and the Monday crew who had to figure out all the financial and billing issues.
All in all, I feel very blessed.
