Happy New Year!
New Year is almost upon us and we at Desert Vet want to remind you to keep your pet safe during the festivities. Many dogs panic and run loose; getting lost and picked up by Animal Control or worse, getting hit by a car.
Keep your pet indoors and try to muffle the sound by playing music or the TV. Let it be known that some dogs panic bad enough to where they actually break windows trying to get free. If this is the case with your dog, we recommend trying a sedative to help calm them. Sedatives can be a great tool during times of distress for our furry pets. We have several options available, including a new oromucosal gel called Sileo. This is applied to the gums of dogs and is absorbed through the mucous membranes. We can adjust the dose based on your pets’ anxiety level. This particular medication is especially helpful in situations such as noise sensitivity-which is perfect for fireworks. We also have tablets available that can help calm them as well. If you feel as though your pet may need help to keep calm during the fireworks, call our office for more information.
Another great topic we wanted to discuss is laser therapy. Here is a list of some of the conditions in which laser therapy can be helpful:
Tooth Extraction Pain Relief
Sprains, Strains & Fractures
Post-Surgical Healing / Pain Relief
Degenerative Joint Disease
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Laser therapy is a great tool that can be used in place of pain medication or in conjunction with when pain medication is just not enough. One of our favorite things at the clinic is to see a geriatric pet who suffered through years of arthritis begin laser therapy and for the owner to report that the pet is now acting like a puppy again! We offer different packages based on the condition and needs of your pet. If you would like to discuss laser therapy, make an appointment with one of our veterinarians today!
