Emergencies

Howdy, the last several weeks have seen a huge increase in emergencies such as dog fights, parvo infections, animals hit by cars and so on.  We had a very troubling emergency which we want to share.  It seems as though there are some MD's and Chiropractors here in town who feel they can and should work on the pets of their patients and friends.  Not only is this illegal (practicing veterinary medicine without a license) it is dangerous to your pet.  Human practitioners are NOT trained nor equipped to work on animals. The doses of medicines and anatomy are not the same and they are not licensed to provide these kinds of services.  In this most recent case, an MD tried to perform a surgery on a dog and found themselves in trouble quickly.  Our emergency doctor was able to repair the damage, but at a much greater cost financially and in the dog's suffering than had the dog gone to a veterinarian initially.  Please be aware, it is not ok and never has been for MD's, chiropractors, dentists, massage therapists or any other human practitioner to perform services for your pet.
